Handix Scientific Inc. Completes Acquisition of Aerosol Devices Inc.

July 1, 2022

Handix Scientific Inc. announced that on June 30, 2022 the company acquired Aerosol Devices Inc (“ADev”). Both companies were founded in the State of Colorado and are headquartered in Fort Collins.

Founded in 2014, ADev owns an exclusive license to the airborne particle collectors based on the water-based condensational growth tube (“CGT”) technology invented by Aerosol Dynamics Inc. of Berkeley, California. ADev carried forward this technology, developing and marketing a line of particle collectors: the Spot SamplerTM aerosol particle collector, and the BioSpot-VIVASTM and BioSpot-GEMTM bioaerosol samplers. ADev’s instruments have played a critical role in elucidating the airborne transmission nature of SARS-CoV-2 viruses during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The company was recognized by BizWest magazine as one of the fastest growing private companies in Northern Colorado for the past three years.

“We are thrilled to partner with Handix Scientific on ADev’s next phase of growth”, commented Ms. Pat Keady, Co-Founder and prior CEO of Aerosol Devices. “We partnered with Handix because it fulfilled our commitment to continue development of the core CGT technology and offered the best opportunity and support for our employees, customers, and collaborators.”

“Our firms share a common interest in science and in aerosol technology. We welcome this opportunity to collaborate, and to make available advanced instrumentation for airborne particle measurements.”, Dr. Susanne Hering, Founder of Aerosol Dynamics and Co-Founder of Aerosol Devices.

“The complementary technology and expertise of Handix Scientific, Aerosol Devices, and Aerosol Dynamics provide exciting opportunities for new instruments and for advancing science”, Dr. Gregory Lewis, President and CEO of Aerosol Dynamics.

Dr. Ping Chen, founder and CEO of Handix Scientific, stated, “Handix and ADev are highly complementary in talent and technology. The combined company will continue to develop and promote ADev’s particle collectors. We will use the CGT technology to develop real-time instruments that can detect physical, chemical and/or biological properties of atmospheric particles. One such example is to integrate a CGT-based particle collector with Handix’s microfluidics ice nuclei counter to make real-time measurements of ice nuclei particles (INP) in the atmosphere. I’m very excited about the scientific and commercial potentials of ADev’s particle collectors and CGT technology. I anticipate great things to happen in the coming years.”

Handix Scientific Inc, founded in 2015, is a growing research and development company providing advanced atmospheric instrumentation and data products to industrial, academic and government customers. The company specializes in atmospheric aerosol and cloud droplet measurements for ground-based and airborne applications, including tethered balloon systems and aircraft. Handix has eight PhD research scientists working on projects supported by U.S. Federal Agency contracts and Small Business Innovative Research grants. ADev’s strong focus on engineering, manufacturing and marketing, provides valuable resources that will be used in the development and promotion of commercial products from both companies.
