“Aerosols” have never before been so popular – and we are not talking about spray cans or graffiti! We made an unsuccessful bid for the Internet domain “aerosol.com” back in August when it was estimated to be worth $5,000….it is now valued at $850,000! Can you believe it?
If there is a positive outcome of this pandemic, it is the world’s appreciation of science, plus respect for engineers/scientists with expertise in aerosols, fluid mechanics and indoor air quality. Through their collective efforts, we [the public] better understand that exhaled breath from an infected person has micro-droplets that contain virus particles, that some people are super spreaders, and that singing can emit thousands more particles than just breathing. We learned that droplet/particle size matters and that 2 meters is probably not enough physical distance. We are hopeful that this recognition translates into long-lasting increases in funding for fundamental research in airborne disease transmission, how to create healthy indoor spaces and lead to expansion for other forms of aerosol research as well, e.g. climate change.
Aerosol Devices’ team of engineers and scientists is expanding the use of our instruments for bioaerosol testing and aerosol chemical characterization. We are committed to moving the technology forward to meet the growing needs and interests. In 2021, we plan to broaden our market reach to industrial applications specifically for bioaerosol pathogen testing. But we do this with equal attention to our core aerosol research community who are solving the world’s most complex problems.
Pat Keady and the TEAM at Aerosol Devices appreciate all of you as our customers, collaborators, partners, and friends, and look forward to working with you in the new year.
Wishing you a very safe and happy holiday season!
